This engraving pen is not much thicker than a regular pen, which makes it very easy to use, especially for engraving letters or other fine work. You hold it just like a pen and press the red button as you carve. You do have to use a soft touch; pressing too hard will make it stop for a moment, so it is ideal for soft wood. However, I did try it on some harder surfaces and worked, but I had to work more slowly and deliberately. It worked so great on soft wood that I actually bought two of them.

This etcher was the best value for money I've seen. The thickness is about like writing with a marker. We had some tools come up missing at work so we labeled everything with it. Its so easy to use. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I order several at a time and I had one that didn't work. They are very small motors so your gonna have a few issues here or there. But they always last. And I use them everyday.

I actually own a dremel. In case you're wondering, the small engraving bit for it will fit but the other bits wont. Which is still amazing for this price. This is much easier to hold for engraving and doodling and does better than I thought it would. Already put my name on a couple metal items and doodled on some little washers to test it out. Be careful with the little screw that holds the bit. It is SUPER tiny. I dropped it and thought it was gone. Luckily I don't have dark floors.

I worked with this pen for hours over 2 days & could not get it to consistently work. When functioning it wasn’t a strong enough engraver for even beech wood. Ultimately it hurt my hand & wrist.

Inexpensive fun crafting quality, but not powerful enough or precise enough for high quality work. Good fun tool for the price.

This is a great product. My daughter is training to be a hair stylist and some of her equipment that she needs at school was disappearing and there was no way to identify her things. I bought this so we could engrave her initials on all of her things (ex. brushes, scissors, combs, hair dryers...etc). This worked great for this and now she can visually identify all of her stuff. It also did not damage any of the items when we engraved them.

I've used it 2 times. Under use it frequently doesn't have enough power and turns off. Sometimes it stays off and I had to pull the batteries to get it going again.

THE SIZE IS GREAT FOR SMALLER ITEMS/PROJECTS. HAVEN'T HAD A CHANCE TO USE IT MUCH, BUT SEEMS TO WORK WELL ON THE PROJECTS WE HAVE DONE SO FAR.
