The problem is compatibility with iphone 8, not product quality
The device itself is good quality and well designed. The reason for 3 stars is I bought it for an iphone 8 plus. it says it is compatible and technically it is but not by much. On the iphone 8 the lens on the back is very near the upper right corner of the phone. Once I go the lens aligned, which was very difficult, no amount of tightening etc would hold it in place. The camera weight is just too far off center.I had better success with using the front camera. Due to the lens being more centered it was stable that way, but taking pictures that way would be awkward unless you use a tripod and remote trigger.Aligning the lens is itself difficult. My best solution was to hold the telephoto slightly away from the phone and try to see the lens of the telephoto through the camera, the move it to fit tight and fine tune. alternative might be to put alignment marks on both the phone and telephoto.Probably only good solution for iphone 8 is a case that fits phone and aligns telephoto to it.

A nice, solidly built lens
This is a well made, solidly built lens. I was expecting it to be somewhat chintzy given the price but have been impressed with how nice it is and have been able to get shots up close at school recitals, whale watching, and during travels that would have been blurry or unclear with my phone. It can be a bit hard to use at first while getting used to your own hand shaking and dialing in the object but I figured out a work around by holding the lens itself instead of the phone and using the lens as a monocle to zoom in on my target before attaching the lens to the camera. It can be used with a case on but can leave a shadow on the edges so it's best to take the phone case off for clear pictures.

It's a telescope
It's a telescope. It causes diffraction, worsening picture quality. The zoom and focusing is nice though. The holding part is tricky, but once it's on it doesn't move all that easily. It also looks nice to just have on display, so I guess it's got that going for it.

Good optical
It works but not as conveniently as I had hoped. On my LG I had to remove the case to use, and a little worried about the clip putting pressure in on the touch screen.... More for static photography, not as convenient for candid shots at all - still happy with purchase though !

It really works!
Has excellent zoom capability and the picture taken was as clear as in the viewfinder. It feels a little top heavy and I'm sure is far more ideal balance using the tripod (which I haven't done yet).

Not for quick use
Very hard to use if you’re touring, if you can take the time to be stationary it works well.
