How does it work?
Nobody knows! But it actually hits the forecasts just as accurately as NOAA and sometimes more so! I've Googled it and nobody has any real idea what makes it work, but it does.I really get a kick out of seeing it beat the accuracy of the National Weather Service fairly consistently!I even sent them a tongue-in-cheek suggestion that they ditch those expensive computers and just use these things.Actually, that would probably work fairly well...

Fitzroy Storm Glass
I wanted this to work so much! I got two - one for my husband and one for my son, for their birthdays. I also got them Galileo Thermometers. We have had very clear weather for a long time, so there has not been anything to watch. We did have some thunderstorms recently, but I forgot to look at it. I did look at it one, when it got a little cloudy, and a few puffs were at the top of the glass, I really do hope it works. I'll just have to wait and see.

Interesting
Now you have to let this system adjust to your air pressure and away from a window...Take the time to set it up and save the restlts page for reference...Great Gift idea for sure.....It took about a week to aclimate to my area then it is just very interesting to check the crystals in the morning...Again a very cool gift for a bookcase or other out of the way place away from the open air or sun

Perfect for the Home Weather Forecaster
Owning this and another sized version of the Fitzroy, I don't believe it has the ability to accurately forecast the weather. This may be due to my geographical location as I have a neighbor whose glass responds with the similar results. However, it is fun to watch the crystals in the glass grow and change during different weather conditions. I enjoy mine thoroughly.

But it is super interesting, I hope I can get it working ...
I guess I'm just resetting it wrong. It's not doing anything but forming crystals at the bottom and it's been that way for a few months now. I'll try resetting it again soon. But it is super interesting, I hope I can get it working right soon!

Stinks
I have a major warning for you. These things explode when they break and smell like camphor. I do not if I will ever get the smell out of my house.

Interesting
I got it for Christmas and in the north it's already freezing, so trying to get the liquid/crystals to clear is not reasonable. It has not changed much, but the weather has not changed much - it's still cold. The crystals are interesting. We'll see how it works in the summer.

I couldn't get any of the four different brands to work.
I tried 4 different ones, hoping one would work since I had built a wooden display with different weather instruments. I reset them several times... moved them to different locations in my home... charted barometric pressure over a two or three week period. The response on all four was almost zip.. maybe you have to see at sea or something but Illinois wasn't a working location. Since I had put in a lot of time and money building a display, I am very disappointed and frustrated. The seller was very helpful in trying to help me... I gave up, I don't want a refund. It certainly was an experience.
