I have two different sizes of this filter, I use one on my shrimp tank and the other on my 10 gallon community tank. The flow is good and it works well. You can diy your media both mechanical and bio, with that being said you are limited as to how much based on it's size. I also run sponge filters to aid in proper filtration and beneficial bacteria to hand the bio load. They can be used with the spray which I like in the smaller tanks to break up service tension as well as having a bit flow / circulation in the tanks. I like to replace the filter media with CP's nano green or blue depending on which tank and that keeps the water clear and the inhabitants healthy and happy. They do sell the pouch of their media as well as replace sponges, again diy to lower costs going forward. I like them and you may as well.

Added this to the TopFin Soothe which comes with an internal cone/cylinder type filter. (i didnt use it) I rigged it again with my own media. Removing the stock sponge and carbon, replace it with my own medium texture sponge and then a polishing sponge, all cut to this size. This is powerful and I'm happy about that. I have to direct the spray bar to glass and let the current be bumped down before reaching female betta. After water change the clarity of the water was noticeable with minutes. This is a great filter for the cost. It works very well and is light weight. There are suction cups on the bottom to keep it in place. This filter is small, can sit in shallow water, powerful for its little size, easy to clean and has a reusable sponge. There are parts that come with it to redirect the water flow but I don't use them. I am now using this filter in a large birdbath and it works good for that purpose as well. I no longer have the aquarium. I am glad I bought this filter. Now the birdbath stays clean too.

This seems to clog up easily and I regularly (once a week) have to take it apart and rinse everything out. However, I was running it in a 10 gallon tank with about 20 tadpoles in it.

Works great for my ten gallon tank. Have to clean once a month. Really powerful.

The filter works great providing enough air into the tank. Can't really comment on the filter aspect yet as I have only had it for one day. One note of caution, this filter is made in china; not the U.S. like the description indicates. Not sure if that makes a difference in quality.
